제주의 주상절리대는 서귀포 중문 관광단지 근처에 위치해 있어 접근성이 좋다. 

Jeju Jusangjeolli Cliff(Columnar Joint), Located near the Jungmun Tourist Complex in Seogwipo, it is very easy to access.

 

무엇보다 자연이 만들어낸 독특한 풍경이 정말 인상적인 곳이다. 
Above all, the unique scenery created by nature is truly impressive.

 

 

 

처음 주상절리대를 마주했을 때 가장 놀라웠던 건 마치 사람이 정교하게 깎아놓은 듯한 바위의 형태였다. 

What surprised me the most when I first saw Jusangjeolli Cliff was the rock formations that looked as if they had been precisely carved by humans.

 

하지만 이건 인공물이 아니라, 수십만년 전 화산 활동으로 만들어진 자연 그대로의 모습이다. 

However, this is not man-made, but a natural formation created by volcanic activity hundreds of thousands of years ago.

 

용암이 바다로 흘러들어가면서 급격히 식고 수축하는 과정에서 육각형 기둥 모양의 바위가 형성되었다고 한다. 

As lava flowed into the sea, it rapidly cooled and contracted, forming these hexagonal column-shaped rocks.

 

그래서 '주상절리(株狀節理)'라는 이름이 붙은 것이다. 

That’s why it is called “Jusangjeolli,” meaning columnar joints.

 

 

 

가까이서 보면 하나하나의 기둥들이 마치 거대한 벌집처럼 촘촘하게 모여있는 모습이다. 

Up close, each column looks tightly packed together like a giant honeycomb.

 

규칙적인 형태인데도 불구하고 자연스럽게 이어져 있는 모습이 신기하다. 

Despite their regular shapes, it’s fascinating how naturally they connect with one another.

 

특히 파도가 강하게 치는 날에는 절벽 아래로 부딪히는 물보라가 더해져 더욱 웅장한 풍경을 만들어낸다. 

Especially on days when the waves are strong, the crashing spray against the cliffs creates an even more magnificent view.
